더 갤러리 카사 델 아구아 소유자인 (주)제이아이디가 건축물의 무상 기부 의사를 밝혀 카사 델 아구아 철거 논란이 새 국면을 맞고 있다.
(주)제이아이디는 20일 제주특별자치도의 이선화 의원에게 보낸 공문을 통해 "현재 관할 행정청이 임시 가설 건축물의 사용기한 초과에 따라 강제 철거를 준비하는 상황에서 많은 분들이 힘을 합쳐 더 갤러리 카사 델 아구아 보전 방법을 찾기 위해 노력하는 모습에 큰 감동과 책임감을 가지게 됐다"며 기부 배경을 밝혔다.
이어 "이러한 의미있는 건축물이 좀더 많은 사람들이 공유할수 있기를 바라는 의미에서 당사 이익과 관계없이 공익 목적으로 사용된다면 관할 자치단체, 또는 국가단체에 무상으로 기부할 의사가 있음을 밝힌다"며 "추후 본 건축물이 지닌 가치가 영구히 보존되고 공익을 위해 의미있게 활용된다면 그것만으로도 보람되고 충분한 보상이 될 것"이라고 강조했다.
특히 (주)제이아이디의 이번 결정은 도내 문화예술계가 제안한 '카사 델 아구아의 건물?부지 소유자인 (주)제이아이디 부영의 무상기증과 제주도 공공갤러리로의 활용' 방안과 맥락을 같이 함으로써 향후 제주도와 부영의 입장 변화가 주목된다.
